    Ryan Adams fans

    vela:

Confession: I can’t name even one of his songs. My only comprehension about the guy is what I’ve read from other Tumblrs. I’ve rushed through listening to a few of his songs a couple of years ago. I think one of the reasons why I didn’t give him another listen was because I dated this guy who was so damn persistent on making me like RA after I politely said I didn’t. I wasn’t about to listen to mix CDs made by someone who insisted I would love them. That is the worst way to make anyone like something you like.

So alright, I’ll give Ryan Adams a chance. Tumblr folk, suggest/send me some of your favorite songs. Thanks.

many other people have probably given you advice on this, featuring touching songs of heartbreak and substance abuse. this is all well and good, but they are wrong.

the only ryan adams song you really need to listen to is “look who got a website” (aka “welcome to ryan adams dot com, motherfucker”), and its sequel (that I’m still hunting down), “good morning, halloweenheads” (or “today is a new day on ryan-minus-adams-dot-com”).

for a brief period, after the titanic failure of his record “29,” ryan adams took to his website to release a series of about fifteen totally insane “albums” consisting of ten to twelve minute-long songs in different styles, primarily 90s hip-hop & hardcore, under names like “dj reggie, “the shit,” and “sad dracula.”this was an awesome time.

they have all since vanished, though apparently the “sad dracula” albums are full of actual songs and better than his combined output since 2001. I wish I had them lying around.

alas, all I have is this article he wrote for the mit world policy journal.
