I get accused occasionally by my friends of being a dissonance hound, particularly when I make fun of some singer/songwriter sacred cows. but the ideas that come up in what they describe as “noise,” particularly in early eighties no wave and its contemporary reactionary movements in manchester etc., like repetition of themes and the importance of sustaining tones, owe as much to bach as branca.
